m0ment
On the occasion of Athens’ being chosen as World Book Capital 2018 by UNESCO, in October (2018) the New Wagon in the Railway Cultural Venue (Rouf), Athens hosted in its carriages the exhibition “The Train of Fear” by the visual group CITY READS. In the context of this commission I created the work entitled “m0ment”.
This initiative, curated by the visual artist Rania Kapeliari, focuses on WWII, the Holocaust and the forced deportation of hundreds of thousands of people because of their race or ideology in the infamous “death trains” that led them to the hellish concentration camps.
Sculptors, painters, and photographers visually elaborated their ideas in the “cocoon” of the carriages of the New Wagon of the Railway Cultural Venue, seeking to evoke that era’s particularly emotionally charged ambiance. An anti-war exhibition that was indeed inspired by the past, yet remains extremely relevant to today, seeking to preserve memory so as to allow younger generations to learn from humanity’s adventure through wars.
